The Scholar

The Scholar is the ultimate subject matter expert. Modelled on the monk’s role in ancient society, they stand a bit apart from the rest of us, spending years in the study of a given discipline. Haunting the halls of laboratories, institutions, think tanks, libraries, journals and consultancies, they are the holders of our collective knowledge as a species.  But today they have competition for this title from data algorithms, A.I. and the internet itself. In either case, they are proud “geeks” who jealously guard their autonomy because it keeps them unbiased and objective. Their job is to present evidence-based facts (and perhaps their expert interpretation) to answer both the ‘what,’ and the ‘why’, beholden to nothing but the truth.
